NURSING
At Western School Corporation, the health and safety of our students and staff is a top priority. Each school is supported by a full-time registered nurse who provides care for students who become ill or injured during the school day and assists those with acute or chronic health needs. Our school nurses help maintain a healthy learning environment by:
-
Administering medications
-
Managing health conditions that may arise during the school day, including asthma, severe allergies, diabetes, and seizures
-
Assessing, caring for, and treating minor illnesses and injuries
-
Providing health counseling
-
Preventing and controlling communicable diseases
-
Monitoring student immunizations as required by the State of Indiana

The State of Indiana requires every child enrolled in an accredited school to be immunized as determined by the state department of health (I.C. 20-34-4-2). It is the responsibility of HSE Schools to maintain current and accurate records of immunizations for each student. The Indiana State Department of Health has created a calendar or schedule for vaccines required for students by age.
STATE-REQUIRED IMMUNIZATIONS FOR STUDENTS
If your student cannot get vaccinated per Indiana requirements, an exemption form must be completed and submitted to the nurse of the school your student attends. Medical and religious exemption forms are linked below.

Meridian Health Services recently opened a brand new health clinic on Western’s campus. They provide convenient and affordable medical and behavioral health services to the community. Meridian offers sliding fee scale eligibility to ensure all patients are seen regardless of insurance and family income status. Medicaid, self-pay and most insurances are accepted.
