Main Information

Dear Parents and Guardians of Remote Students,

WRDL Updates

IREAD 3 March 8-19, 2021

All students in third grade are required to take the IREAD 3 assessment. The test must be administered at Western and cannot be taken at home. Please read communications sent by your child’s teacher regarding dates and times for taking the assessment. Please contact your child’s teacher or principal at 765-883-5554, or the Special Projects Administrator at 765-883-5576 ext 5116, if you have any questions regarding the assessment and/or assessment window.

ILEARN April 19-May 14, 2021

Indiana Learning Evaluation Assessment Readiness Network (ILEARN) measures student achievement and growth according to Indiana Academic Standards. ILEARN is the summative accountability assessment for Indiana students and assesses:

  • English/Language Arts (ELA) (Grades 3-8)
  • Mathematics (Grades 3-8)
  • Science (Grades 4 and 6)
  • Social Studies (Grade 5)
  • Biology*
  • U.S. Government* – Optional

*Upon completion of the respective high school course

Students must take the assessment on Western school grounds. Your child’s teachers will notify you of the dates and times your child will be expected to come to campus to take each section of the assessment. Specific timelines are required for completion of each section of the assessment and all students in the specified grades are required to complete the ILEARN assessment. Please contact your child’s teachers, administrators, or the Special Projects Administrator ((765) 883-5576 ext 5116) if you have specific questions or concerns about the ILEARN assessment window.

**On Campus Learning (Grades K-12)

  • Please check the student handbooks (available on the schools website and your child’s iPad) for information about school supplies
  • Review the drop off and pick up procedures for each school as this has changed since the 2019-2020 school year
  • If your child requires transportation and you have not already requested a bus, you may not be able to receive transportation. Please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. at 765-883-5576 ext 5150 to request busing.
  • Review the safety procedures for each building, especially those pertaining to new COVID regulations. Masks are required for specific times and locations.
  • Please visit the school webpages for any additional information

**Remote Learning (Grades K-8)

    • For students in grades K-5, we have adjusted our program to one format. Students will access lesson instructions through live sessions via ZOOM or Explain Everything during the school day 9:00am-3:30pm. These sessions will be recorded so that students may access them after school hours and for additional resources. Lesson materials will be accessible to students via the teacher’s Google Classroom page. Your child’s teacher will send invitations and instructions to your email address and your child’s school email address (Grades 3-5). It is imperative that you have a current email address and phone number on file for communication.
  • For students in grades 6-8, students will join live instruction via ZOOM for each teacher’s class. The students are expected to log into that classroom at the designated time. This will also serve as a means of attendance. Sessions for non-virtual classroom teachers will be recorded for students to access as resources for working after school hours. Lesson materials will be accessible to students via their teachers’ Google Classroom pages. Additional instructions will be sent to your child’s school email address

Formats for Virtual classes will change due to the number of returning students to the classroom.

    • 6th grade Virtual face to face Zoom instruction

Changes to 7th and 8th due to class sizes.

    • 7th -grade Students will remote into the classroom via Zoom to view/hear classroom instruction. Face to Face time will be reduced.
    • 8th -Students will remote into the classroom via Zoom to view/hear classroom instruction. Face to Face time will be reduced.

**Remote Learning through Edmentum (Grades 6-12)

  • Students taking on Edmentum must realize and accept that this is an independent learning program. Students must complete the course materials, post tests and finals by May 27, 2021. Failure to complete course requirements will result in non-credit of the course.
  • A recommended pace is given for each course. Students and parents can monitor this pace through the edmentum sensei. Students can work at different paces but keep in mind that delaying the progress can alter their mastery of the content and impact their attendance.
  • Students will be assigned a Western staff member to whom they can contact for help with the program and seek assistance for a particular subject. Office hours for these staff members are the same as a regular school day 7:30am-2:30pm, so if the student is working after school hours they may not receive a response until the following school day.
  • Students will have access to some recorded videos from Western teachers on more difficult topics. These would be supplemental resources outside of the edmentum program

**January 19, 2021 will be the deadline for requesting any changes to a Western learning program. After this date, any approval or denial of a program change will be determined by the building administrator.
